Jet washing is a very effective driveway cleaning method, but it’s not perfect. Long-established black lichen and chewing gum are particularly stubborn to remove with traditional power washing.

If you’ve tried jet washing your own driveway, only to be left with stubborn, ugly black spots, you have black lichen growths.
These take take between three and eight years to form and can’t be effectively removed by standard driveway pressure washing, which just removes the surface dirt – but these microbes are actually growing within the porous stone.
Some contractors use neat Sodium Hypochrolite to deal with Black Spot Removal on your driveway. Beware – this chemical is corrosive and can damage the stone, landscaping and plants around your driveway.
